It’s here—all the fun, food, family, and the most stressful time of the year. Get out the fine china - no wait - lets do paper plates! Holidays are an emotional roller coaster, an exciting and overwhelming time. Even when you are in tip-top shape. Now imagine, just a little bit of energy, vision difficulties, add on a bit of forgetfulness, will the holidays take on the same type of feelings? When I use to visit my dad in his house out on the farm, I would spend more time cleaning the house and taking him to appointments so I could give my sister a break.
Now that my dad is living in a retirement community, his home is cleaned and he already has transportation to all of his appointments. I know I may miss the smell of my mom’s burnt peas and the Jello with all the little colored marshmallows, but, I still have them as my holidays memories. My dad is creating new holiday memories now and I can relax. Take the time during this holiday season to consider making your parents daily living easier and visit our community today!
